Patria grew out of the venerable Torrepalino cooperative when longtime enologist Francesco Di Miceli purchased the cantina in 1998. A chief concern was to continue production in the magnificent old cellar, dug out of seven distinct layers of lava, where old-vine Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio are vinified and aged in Slavonian oak.
